Kathy Hughes was thrown from her sister's car, her head seriously injured when she landed. Kathy's prognosis was bleak.She slowly realized that the people around her could not understand what she was trying to say. She also discovered that she had lost the ability to read and write. The damage to her brain meant that after she left the hospital, she would have to relearn the basic functions of everyday life.
